Commitments After Official Visits

The first official visit for a prospect has a high commitment rate. WIth that in mind, many players committed to schools after official visits over the weekend. Here's a dive into the official visits leading to commitments.

It makes sense that players typically visit the leading school first. That leads to a lot of early September commitments. The flood gates on 2018 commitments opened after a busy weekend of official visits. Indiana schools and prospects were in the mix for commitments to begin the week.

Aaron Henry popped to Michigan State after taking his first official visit to East Lansing over the weekend. All of the signs pointed to a commitment as he was looking to wrap up his recruitment sooner rather than later. That happened before he took official trips to Butler, Ohio State, Illinois and Xavier. Many schools fight for an early visit for exactly that reason.

Jake Forrester visited Seton Hall first, but Indiana landed his commitment after Forrester visited Bloomington. He had trips to Xavier and Virginia Tech planned as well.

De'Avion Washington took an official visit to Indiana State starting last Thursday. That led to his commitment at the conclusion of the trip. Indiana State, Valparaiso and Ball State were the main schools recruiting him at the end of the summer evaluation period. Indiana Basketball Source had heard that Washington was strongly considering Indiana State a couple weeks ago. Early in his recruitment, it didn't seem like staying home was a priority for him. Credit goes to the Indiana State staff for locking him down throughout the process.

Dwayne Cohill decided to commit to Dayton after his official visit to the school. He had visits planned for Ohio State and Virginia Tech as well. Purdue recruited Cohill early in his high school career. The Boilers, apparently, backed off without offering Cohill.

If a player doesn't state that they are going to wait to make a decision, the earlier a school gets an official visit the better. If a prospect doesn't have it stuck in their head that they will wait to make a commitment, a school will likely impress and pressure the player into committing at one of his first stops. The players mentioned in this article exemplify that theory.
