Greensburg power forward Ryan Welage committed to San Jose State on Wednesday after taking his official visit to the school. Welage is off to a great start in his senior season. He has been extremely productive throughout his high school career. Here is more on Ryan Welage committing to San Jose State.

Ryan Welage had an up and down recruitment. It was late in the process before he picked up his first scholarship offer during June heading into his senior year. He then picked up a handful of offers. Those offers then expired relatively quick as other players accepted the offers before he did. Welage's journey was documented in this Indiana Basketball Source article.

Welage is putting up monster numbers for Greensburg this season. It is his first high school season without Bryant McIntosh and Sean Sellers leading the way for the Pirates. He is finally the go-to player. He is making the most of it. Greensburg is 8-1 thus far. In Welage's two most recent games, he scored 31 and 39 points, respectively.  Greensburg won the 3A state title last year and they will contend once again this season behind Welage.

The 2015 prospect will be a 'stretch 4' and maybe even a 'stretch 5' to start his career at San Jose State. His perimeter shooting will be a huge asset to him getting on the floor immediately for the Spartans. Welage is not an explosive athlete, so adding muscle will be very important to his success at the next level. His basketball intelligence will also help him get on the floor early. His shooting and IQ will be two things that he relies on early in his career.

The Spartans are in need of players like Welage. Head coach Dave Wojcik recently suspended five players for violating team rules. The suspensions included the top four scorers on the team. Welage is a player that will not cause any problems off the floor. Wojcik probably wishes he could have Welage right now with his depleted roster.

Welage is the 27th Division 1 commitment from Indiana's 2015 class.
